Why does it involve so much chocolate?

I'm sure someone out there can enlighten me as to the link between Easter and chocolate.
It must have been left out from my Sunday school lessons all those years ago and I don't believe the advent of Spring, with all it's bouncing bunnies involves chocolate either.
It really does mystify me.
But I don't want to be a party pooper so todays post is about chocolate... or chocolate cake to be precise.
I thought I'd try my hand at Nigella's Easter nest cake from Feast.

Is there anything more greediness inducing than melted chocolate

Nigella's assures me it is suppose to look "crater-like".

And adorned with Mini Eggs. Yum!
